Ronny Chieng

Yichieng was born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently a senior
correspondent for The Daily Show on Comedy Central and creator and star of the
sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student which debuted on ABC (Australia) as
well as Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was the son of an Malaysian Chinese
family. He was born in Johor Bahru. Chieng grew up both in Singapore and in the
United States, living in Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 until 1994. Chieng
performed with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival in 2013. Two years
later, he was asked to audition for the correspondent role for The Daily Show,
which Noah hosts. He was named one the top 10 comics in Variety's July 2016
issue. In October 2016, Chieng joined The Daily Show to discuss the
controversial Jesse Watters Fox News segment some believed was racist. Chieng
broadcasts a tirade-filled critique of the segment on the network that is
conservative. He also visited NewYork City's Chinatown where Watters mocked
residents. The viral video was covered by the Washington Post, Slate, and other
media publications. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout in his youth. Chieng
hasn't managed to gain citizenship or permanent residence status in Australia
despite living in Australia for ten years. Chieng joked in 2018 that it was
cynophobic. However, he later stated that he is 100 % not scared of dogs.
